Junior SQUIDS

Junior Squids was co-founded by Deanne Scanlan and Richard Rubendra. It is a performing arts development program for children aged from 6-16 years. The program is designed to develop the skills, knowledge and experience necessary for children to participate in performing arts activities with a particular focus on Theatre. The Junior Squids program will anchor around four core skills for children to develop including:
  1. Acting,
  2. Singing/Music,
  3. Dancing/Choreography
  4. Theatre awareness and etiquette
The program is run as a weekly performing arts development workshop held over 2-3 hour Saturday morning session. The workshops are run from the Lakes College North Lakes.   Qualified and experienced tutors will run four skills classes for approximately 30-45 minutes. The Vice-President of SQUIDS Ms Deanne Scanlan is the principal of Junior Squids and will oversee and direct the running of the workshops while the Managing Director Business Management Mr Richard Rubendra oversees the corporate and financial aspects of the program. Each year the children work toward a major production and during this journey also undertake short performances at various venues as well as a parent’s showcase at the end of each semester. We concentrate on all facets of theatre , singing , dancing , stagecraft, directing , stage managing , and set design . Our tutors are qualified and experienced in the performing arts. During 2012 a number of our students have already participated in West Side Story at the Redcliffe Cultural Centre, as well as short performances at the Schonell Theatre and Farmyard Fantastic. Our students are currently working toward Suessical Junior which will be performed during November. During 2013 we will have an agency attached to the group in the second half of the year which will allow us to showcase children to the likes of Movie World and open up other avenues for the more serious of the group. This will entail adding show reels for marketing purposes.
