The musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, and won four, in 2000 including Best Musical Score. It was named by Time Magazine in 2000 as one of the top ten theatre productions of the year. The 2000 Original Cast recording won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album. Songs Written in the Stars reached number two in the Billboard US adult contemporary music charts, and number one in the Canadian contemporary charts.

Aida is a contemporary musical take on a grand classic tale of the timeless bond between an enslaved Nubian princess and an Egyptian soldier. As forbidden love blossoms between them, the young lovers are forced to face death or part forever. Together, they set a shining example of true devotion that ultimately transcends the vast cultural differences between their warring nations, heralding a time of unprecedented peace and prosperity.

SQUIDS’ 2013 production of Aida features the talented voices of Sophia Haworth, Sarah Denaro, and Nathaniel Currie; as well as a cast of fantastic singers and dancers. Directed by Julie Jones (Nunsense), Co-directed by Fiona Every-Jassim, the musical features music direction by Michael Di Mauro (The King & I, West Side Story), and choreography by Bridget Ewart (West Side Story)
